Looking information on Joseph and Celia Moran. Both may have been in Nazareth House, Manchester around the early 1920`s. I would appreciate any information.
Kind regards.

The name of the home was KIMPTON HOUSE in Southsea, Hampshire. I've seen only one other post on this site relating to someone being placed there in the 1950's. Like the other 'guest' comment, although I don't have any bad recollections of the place or my time there, I still have gaps in my memory.
I was placed there initially as I was a pretty uncontrollable and unruly child - especially as my Mum was expecting my sister at the time (sibling rivallry at it's best!). Any info would be great terri.brown71@hotmail.com, currently living in Sydney, Australia.
I moved from there to Skegness in April 1965..to a house called 'Ellerslie' on Franklin Avenue, where I lived for 3 years.
Dear Richard
The homes you are describing are probably the cottage homes at Horncastle which were called Holmeleigh. There are memories of Holmeleigh here http://www.childrenscottagehomes.org.uk/_holmeleigh_childrens_homes_horncastle.html
If the link doesn't work, you can find the page through our index on the left.

Dear Edward
Springwell House was an open air school for school for children who were ill. It was thought that fresh air had great restorative powers. Some memories of the school are here http://www.childrenscottagehomes.org.uk/springwell_house.html

Dear Marjorie
Could it have been the Beech Hill House Children's Convalescent Home, Mortimer, near Reading? It was run by the British Red Cross Society Berkshire Branch as far as I know.
All good wishes

I would love any information. Thank you x
Hi Sam
Thanks for contacting the site. There was a Cherry Tree Orphanage in Sheffield from 1863 which I think was on Mickley Lane. There was also a more modern children's home also called Cherry Tree which I think was quite close to the orphanage.
I hope that helps.

Hi Douglas
The home for little boys was Farningham (have a look at our page on it). Hanbury was Robert Culling Hanbury, MP for Middlesex who was the first President of the Homes for Little Boys. The award was given "to each boy who has left the Home and kept his situation a full year, or longer, and who returns on Old Boys' Day, within five full years of his leaving the Home, having previously sent to the Secretary a written testimonial from his master, stating that he has behaved properly and is industrious". I wonder how it came into your father's hands?

Hi Yvonne. There was a John Grooms war-time home in Edgware, London for young children, After the war, the children went to Pilgrim's House in Kent. The John Grooms organisation's work still goes on under the name Livability. Try contacting them to see if they have more information www.livability.org.uk Good luck in your search.

Hi David. Could it have been the Orphanage on Penn Road? That's not far from Merridale Road. If not, could you let us know what sort of decade you left this home, and what sort of age you were? It would help us to try to locate it. Many thanks, Gudrun Jane, www.formerchildrenshomes.org.uk

I remember being fed stuffed marrow and being spanked with the slipper.
Is there anyone out there with any info regarding the Holt in the 50's. Leicester County council say they have no record of the home or our stay. I understand they may not have our records but the home did exist.
Take care
