Does anyone know the name of the children's home in lancing Sussex
It was on the beach front and we were made to walk across the stones and swim in the sea
My aunt and uncle moved to the UK in 1940 from Belgium. They lived in Edgbaston with their 12y old daughter. Shortly after moving their house was bombed. Both parents died, and the girl became an orphan.
Her name was Marie-Louise Coen. The parents were both buried as war casualties in the UK. I have proof of this, it can easily be found online as well.

But....I cannot find anything about the girl. Is it possible that her name was altered? I believe she didn't speak any English yet as they had just arrived and she was probably in shock.
Where did children like that go?
Are there archives that are accessible for these searches? The national archive does not produce results.

I've been trying for years to find information, so families can reunite. But so far...nothing.

Who can help with useful links or info please?

Sharon Payne, I also lived at Fairlawns Children's home in Allestree with my sister Rosemary and brother Christopher. I remember a big Great Dane dog, two brothers called John and Eddie and of course the great primary school across the road.
My dad was at Milton Lodge children’s home in Gillingham, Dorset in the 1940s. If anyone has any information about this home I would like to hear from you. Martin tremorran@gmail.com

She would be aged around 44-49 now, she was there around the 1980,s - 1993 time.
I think her name was Sheri not sure if that is how it’s spelt.
Her father was called Hywel Phillips not sure about here mother.
Apparently she kept on absconding from Silver Brook and her father would help to find her.

Hi Jackie, I worked at Channelview in Bristol and remember you. I was just thinking about you all the other day.
I and my 3 brothers were placed in Hill house children’s home in Wormley in Sept 1967 till feb 68. I have accessed my records but my council say it wasn’t their home, I have had no luck in trying to find out anything about the place apart from it used to be a children’s home! My younger brother was placed in Widbury at the same time. Does anyone have any info on either of these places? Please feel free to email me at: ghafc1309@gmail.com Thanks in advance, Gray
I have recently found out that my mother, Joan Patterson, and her siblings were placed in Ponteland Cottages. She and her sister Marion were admitted on the same date in 1945, her younger brother John in 1942, and sisters I believe she wasn’t aware of, Audrey in 1944, and Sonja in 1947. From reading the limited information available it seems they may not have been in the same cottage, hence why she and Marion lost touch with John. Hoping someone may have some additional information about their time there. Thank you.

Hi,this maybe a longshot, I'm interested in finding anyone who was admitted into the cottage homes Medomsley/Shotley Bridge cottage homes or knows someone who was possibley there middle 1930's onwards my Mam who would of been 90 last year was in Medomsley as far I can gather her name was Margaret Anne Stones at the time she could of possibley been 3 or 4 years of age,as far as I know her 2 brothers were there although not entirely sure as my mam was very young at the time, although she did tell me a few things of her time in the children's homes that she could remember as she got older in the homes.
Any little bit of information would be good and I would be very grateful.

I am researching the site as a local history project; it was also originally built as St Edward's Orphanage for boys 1870s - 1940s. Hi. This is a long shot. Does anyone know of the old children’s home that used to be near Sandbach in Cheshire? My dad was there in and around the 1970’s with his older brother Tony Gregory, as he was older he left before my dad did and he hasn’t seen him since and is desperate to locate him. If anyone was there around that time or remembers the place, this would really help to start tracking.
🙏 Thank you.

Wonder if anyone was in a Boarding School with my Eldest Brother 1975 to 1980 It was called The Pitts Boarding School Torquay
Hello,

Does anyone know boarders at the Marist convent at Hythe kent that were there around 1975 to 1979, l spoke with a Sister some time ago and she had no record although one that we both knew left for America. Two that I remember were Patricia who wore glasses and Eileen who had red hair, it would be nice to know that they are well and have had quality lives.
My Father was in a Convalescent Home in the 1930's. The family lived in Carshalton Surrey, so likely close by that. He had no idea why he was there and spent some time in his later years trying to find our information on it. Seemed records weren't kept that long.We don't know what the name of the place was. Dad really wanted to know the reason because he thought what was currently wrong with his leg could be post-polio, but he has no recollection of having had polio. Must have been very young. No family stories of it were told. I don't know how you can help, but someone might know something. His name was Bobby Jones (Robert), born 1930. My email is: auntiebev@shaw.ca
Hello,
a bit of a long shot but here goes! My dad William (aka Billy) was an orphan at st Vincents boys home Preston in the 40s after the war....is there anyone on here that was there at the same time?
His sister was in holly mount girls home....again same question.
I have tried on many occasion to obtain records hitting a brick wall saying the Catholic Church has a right to seize/keep/block them from been seen for 100 years!! It seems so sad to me they never knew their parents or anything of why they were taken away....forgotten child it seems in this time era. Anyone with even the smallest bit of info would be greatly appreciated.
yours sincerely Emma and family x
